Dermal Fillers in Wimbledon
Over time your face naturally will tend to lose volume, causing the visible signs of ageing: loose skin, lines and wrinkles.
This is all part of the natural ageing process, and caused by a slowdown in collagen production and skin cell renewal. Environmental factors, which can speed things up, include exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, alcohol, smoking, stress and a lack of sleep.
Unfortunately there’s nothing we can do to stop the visible signs of ageing – but we can make them a lot less noticeable. By injecting small amounts of dermal filler into the skin we can restore volume where it’s lacking – making your skin appear plumper, smoother and more radiant. We can also use dermal fillers to add definition to and accentuate the curvaceousness of certain areas of the face as well as to the lips, an area explained in more detail in the section on "Lips".
What are fillers and what types do we use?
We use a dermal filler called EMERVEL, which contains hyaluronic acid: a substance found naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid is a type of sugar that’s found in your skin and cartilage. When it combines with water it swells, creating a natural smoothness. EMERVEL also has lidocaine added to it, which numbs, minimising any potential discomfort.
EMERVEL has a family of 5 different scientifically-advanced and clinically-proven hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. They have an excellent tolerability profile, which means that they are perfectly designed to be tolerated by your facial tissue. But they are specifically used for the long lasting aesthetic outcome they give also, whatever the depth, area and volume correction. This has all been proven in clinical trials. Their use is for the treatment of facial lines, contouring and volume loss, the EMERVEL range of fillers carries the Medical Device CE mark 0459.
EMERVEL benefits from a manufacturing engineering innovation called Optimal Balance Technology™ which is responsible for the fillers’ optimal gel texture. As a result, EMERVEL fillers integrate completely into the appropriate skin layer, giving way to good skin tolerance and long-lasting aesthetic outcomes as shown in clinical trials. EMERVEL belongs to a select group of hyaluronic acid fillers that is based on well-designed clinical trial data.
Are there any side effects?
Some common injection-related reactions might occur after an EMERVEL injection. This include redness, swelling, pain, itching, or tenderness at the injection sites. They typically spontaneously resolve within a few days of the injection.
Nutrients, oxygen and hormones are able to pass freely between the gel particles leaving the skin natural and healthy looking. As the gel breaks down water takes its place and little by little when the gel disappears it does so unnoticed from the body.
When can I have this treatment and when should I not?
Treatment isn’t painful thanks to the use of a very strong local anaesthetic gel and takes just 20 to 30 minutes. You should start to see results within a few days.
There is sometimes a little redness in the area that has just been injected and with the lips there may also be a little swelling for a day or so but many people have their treatments in their lunch break, or before work. The treatment is simple enough to not require time off your normal daily routine afterwards, despite these minor possible side effects.
You are also advised not to expose the treated areas to intense heat or extreme cold for the first few days after the treatment. This is to avoid risk of inflammation as the area has been disturbed. But the gel will not harden or soften as outside temperatures change. Saunas and steam rooms should also be avoided for a few days after treatment.
How long do the effects last?
One of the great advantages of EMERVEL is that the effects are long lasting but not permanent.
- Facial lines and cheek augmentation - follow up treatment is usually needed after 9-12 months
- Lips - follow up may be needed at 6-7 months
- Hands, décolletage - follow up recommended at around 9 months
However the duration of effects depends on many factors such as skin type, sun exposure, lifestyle, age, the degree of effect requested by the patient as well as the injection technique of the practitioner.
How much does treatment cost?
Dermal filler treatment starts from £275.
